About Garrett

Garrett A. Foster, the founder of Spiritual Writers Academy, is a lifelong writer.

A second cancer diagnosis at age 52 changed his life. Cancer became his greatest gift and teacher. Along with immense gratitude for being alive and connecting with others in community, Garrett's uncertainty facing cancer helped him to discover the kind of love he has committed to sharing with others. One way is through his writing.

Garrett’s other blog, "From the Heart" explores his journey through being bullied as a kid for being gay, facing cancer three times, and becoming an interfaith minister and inter-spiritual counselor to spend whatever time he has left doing what he loves and inspiring others to do the same. You can subscribe to that below.

In his "WRITING From the Hear" blog, Garrett shares his experience as a writer; his passion for the craft; and his desire to help other writers find and share their voices in a way that is inter-spiritual, experiential and practical.

Every other week Garrett's posts will include resources, tips, interviews and more for those on "The WRITE Path." To write from our hearts, we must know our hearts. To authentically share ourselves through our writing, we must know ourselves. Garrett hopes to inspire other writers to do both and to lead by example.

Previously, Garrett was an Emmy Award–winning writer for the CBS daytime drama Guiding Light; and a senior editor for magazines and major metro newspapers. A graduate of Vassar College, he is the author of the novel, The Accident of Being Human. His latest, The Weight of Faith, will be published in 2021.

Garrett’s motto is: “Love what you do — and love will follow.”
